Can we drop 40.000 bottles in one day?
On Friday 23 May, we’re hosting the Plastic Bottle Bash at Droppie, Marineterrein Amsterdam — and you’re invited.
Over the past years, Plastic Whale has fished tens of thousands of PET bottles from the Amsterdam canals. We’ve stored them in shipping containers… and now it’s time to do something bold. We’re teaming up with Droppie — a smart and circular recycle store — to process around 40,000 deposit bottles in a single day.
Why? Because we’re building the Tiny Clubhouse for Big Impact: a floating canal house made from Amsterdam plastic. The structure is built using PET bottles, and the deposit refunds help fund the project.
Expect a massive mountain of bottles, sorting tables, recycle machines, and a buzzing community. From 13:00 to 19:00, you can stop by to watch, support, or get your hands dirty. Join the action!

Koningsvissen 2025:
A Day of Doing After the Party
On Sunday, 27 April 2025, over 200 volunteers joined Plastic Whale for our boldest, most exciting edition of Koningsvissen yet—the annual post-King’s Day cleanup in the heart of Amsterdam. With nets in hand and smiles on faces, we set out from Het Scheepvaartmuseum to clean the canals in boats made from canal plastic. It was fun, hands-on, and made a real difference.
Thanks to the incredible effort of our volunteers, we fished out:
30 bags of PET bottles
42 bags of cans
38 bags of other plastic
41 bags of general waste
That’s 151 bags of plastic pulled from Amsterdam’s canals—turning the tide on pollution one net at a time.
This year’s edition came with something extra: a big reveal.
The PET bottles collected will be transformed into a Tiny Clubhouse for Big Impact—a creative space made entirely from canal plastic, built to bring people together and spark doing.

Standard ingredients are an inspirational talk by Plastic Whale’s founder Marius Smit, plastic fishing on the canals of Amsterdam or a beach cleanup at Amsterdam beach and an interactive workshop guided by professional workshop masters. Our aim: at the end of the workshop your team leaves inspired and energized, with a clear roadmap to positive impact for your organization.

With our school program we reach thousands of young people in NL and internationally. With presentations and workshops we reach and inspire companies and individuals to get involved with our mission.
